SAD TIMES

I was in Santa Monica heading  to my favorite store and was greeted by these signs. While I had heard that Rachel Ashwell's Shabby Chic was closing stores, I never imagined this one to be part of it. I have since learned that all her stores are going to be closed. For so many years, I would go into this store and soak up the beauty, buying an occasional thing or two. I loved everything about that world. I bought Rachel's books, studied the look and tried to replicate it in my own way.

A couple years ago,  I was at the Santa Monica Flea Market and saw Rachel hunting for treasures. I couldn't let the moment go by so I approached her and told her how much I enjoyed her style and what an inspiration she was to me. She graciously thanked me and wanted to know if I was "in the business".  I only wished.

So as Shabby Chic closes it's doors and reorganizes it's life, I am reminded  that things happen along our journey we're not expecting. In such cases, we do what we can, with our head held high, gather our support around us and re-emerge stronger than before. All the best to Rachel.

Jury Duty

I had jury duty this week. There are so many amazing things downtown.  By the way, I was let off the case because of a hospital connection. This is the famous Disney concert hall that is adjacent to the court house. I had lunch in their cafe. It was a hot day and inside was nice and cool.

BYGONE CHORES

Remember the past. These are spools from my grandma. They were bought with a quilt in mind, each color carefully selected. Her steady hand would guide the thread through the eye of the needle and from there, she would be lost in her project for weeks. Do any of you quilt?
We have no dishwasher, but somehow the task of hand washing isn't so bad when the dishes are pretty. I'm always on the lookout for vintage platters.

HOLLYWOOD BOWL

It's 5:00 am and the choirs are beginning to take their place.  Sunrise Service  is an 88 year tradition for Los Angeles and a 10 year tradition for us.   If you live anywhere near this area, treat yourself to this magical
event.

LITTLE TREASURES

Strength: the courage to be yourself

We had a wonderful Easter weekend. Went to the Hollywood Bowl for sunrise service. I took pictures and somehow deleted them before posting them here.  Tax date is soon approaching. We are in high gear to find a home this year.  We scan the MLS, the foreclosures and various realtor websites.  Let the games begin!

Christmas in April

I put these shiny ornaments in the flower pocket vase for Christmas and liked it so much it's still there.
Even my Christmas Cactus thinks it's fine to be out in April.  I love the surprise this plant gave me. My lesson I've learned from this; don't wait to bloom. Whenever you're ready, go for it! Do you have unexpected surprises around. Share them with me. In the meantime, I'm going to be in the garden, looking for buds.

BEAUTIFUL DAY

It's a beautiful lazy Sunday. One of those perfect days, not too hot, not too cold. Stop and smell the flowers along your journey this week.

APRIL FOOL'S DAY

There's nothing like making things pretty.  April is a time to celebrate.  Time to get out the silver (sterling or plated) and let the sun catch it's beauty.

whoever lives here loves beauty
