I was in Santa Monica heading  to my favorite store and was greeted by these signs. While I had heard that Rachel Ashwell's Shabby Chic was closing stores, I never imagined this one to be part of it. I have since learned that all her stores are going to be closed. For so many years, I would go into this store and soak up the beauty, buying an occasional thing or two. I loved everything about that world. I bought Rachel's books, studied the look and tried to replicate it in my own way.

I have since learned that all her stores are going to be closed. For so many years, I would go into this store and soak up the beauty, buying an occasional thing or two. I loved everything about that world. I bought Rachel's books, studied the look and tried to replicate it in my own way.  A couple years ago,  I was at the Santa Monica Flea Market and saw Rachel hunting for treasures. I couldn't let the moment go by so I approached her and told her how much I enjoyed her style and what an inspiration she was to me. She graciously thanked me and wanted to know if I was "in the business".  I only wished.
So as Shabby Chic closes it's doors and reorganizes it's life, I am reminded  that things happen along our journey we're not expecting. In such cases, we do what we can, with our head held high, gather our support around us and re-emerge stronger than before. All the best to Rachel.
